Paris Games Week 2017 - Sony Press Conference

I finally got around to watch the Sony Press Conference from Paris Games Week 2017 - almost 2 weeks after it happened. Which is a pretty good time, considering my track record.

This was one of the best - if not the best - Sony press conferences I've seen over the years. I just want to give a quick shoutout to the stage designers and the people who made those extra-wide animations filling the stage: it looked absolutely stunning!

Let's dive right into it!


The first game shown was Ghost of Tsushima, which got a pretty big media response in the days after. Honestly: I don't care about samurai or feudal Japan, so I'm gonna skip this one. Sorry, Sucker Punch! Loved your inFamous series, but this game is simply not for me. Next up was Concrete Genie, which I'm gonna also skip. It seems like a cute, fun game for kids or people who are into this kind of stuff, but I was bored the whole time the trailer played.

The first surprise of the night was Erica - a game for PlayLink. Since I loved Heavy Rain and Beyond - Two Souls, this game immediately peaked my interest. Definitely keeping an eye on this one!

As a big fan of PlayStation VR, the next part was the one I was really waiting for. A mash-up of upcoming PSVR titles. Just a few names I'm really excited for: Ace Combat 7 - Skies Unknown (I played it in VR at Gamescom), Apex Construct (which looks like a first person Horizon: Zero Dawn, based on the trailer :)), Transference (who doesn't like to shit their pants?) and Eden Tomorrow (a mix between Farpoint and Robinson?). After the trailer show we got an extensive preview of what I'd like to call the "full version" of The London Heist: Blood & Truth. Ever since VR Worlds came out, gamers asked for a full length version of The London Heist. Now our prayers have been heard. Thank you London Studio! Also, thanks to Sony and all the other studios making VR games. To quote Jim Ryan: "the future of PlayStation VR is extremely bright".

Next up: the games everybody already knows about. Far Cry 5, Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris, Monster Hunter World (where you can also play as Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn) and Call of Duty: WWII.

Then, between AAA blockbusters, a bombshell in itself: Onrush! A racing game, which many (me included) hope to be the next Motorstorm. Why would they "hide" a brand new announcement between all these known games? This game deserves it's own spot! Oh, and Star Wars Battlefront 2, as last in line.

Another game which I'm not interested in at all: Spider-Man. Moving on...

Oh yeah, the next one was a real treat for me: a brand-new trailer from Detroit: Become Human, showing a multitude of choices and why/how Kara became self-aware. Definitely gonna get this one! Another must-have was God of War, also with a new trailer showing some gameplay and cooperation between Kratos and his son. The next game (actually, a DLC), which has been out for a few days now: Horizon: Zero Dawn - The Frozen Wilds. Looks really promising, but I think I'll hold out for the Complete Edition, which was also announced in the past week.

The remake of Shadow of The Colossus looked absolutely beautiful. Since I already own the "HD" version for PS3, I think I'm gonna skip this one. But if you haven't played the game until now you might want to wait for this latest remake.

The show closed with an extensive look at The Last of Us Part II. One word: brutal! Still no official release date (most plausible gossip: sometime in 2019), so hopefully I've got time to play the first one until then.

P.S.: if anybody from Sony is reading this: since you allowed London Studio to make a full version of The London Heist - how about allowing Japan Studio to make a full version of Robot Rescue? Pretty please...

Actually, not really for the PS2 - not natively at least. Rather making a game for YaBasic which can be played on the PS2. I started my geek life when I was 11 years old and got my first computer (486). A few years later I found some games written in QBasic on a gaming magazine's CD. RE: "Hacking" the PS2 - Game development

Happy 2019 everbody!
